Olympic-sized pool lets swimmers expend the energy |

| Prior to this year's Commonwealth Games, England's successful swimming squad honed their performances in a new £7million, 50m pool at Loughborough University. As well as being among the best facilities in the world for training top swimmers, it is also one of the most energy efficient pools around - the main reason for which is its high reliance on natural ventilation. Its building services were designed by Max Fordham and are largely controlled and monitored by a Trend BMS supplied and engineered by AES Control Systems. Much thought has also gone into the building's HVAC services and the Trend BMS - supplied and engineered by AES Control Systems Ltd - that controls and monitors them. Some 50 of the university's buildings now incorporate Trend control systems.

AES steps up the pace of control |

| Rapid response to demanding ventilation requirements is being achieved in a huge car-testing chamber at the Rover Group's Gaydon site in Warwickshire. In particular Trend IQ251 building-services controllers are achieving response times that are not normally required for building-ventilation plant, but at a much lower cost than programmable logic controllers.
